Punk Hair

Time was when I wanted to dye my hair blue or green or purple but my hair was too dark to take a dye. Now it’s good and grey and I can dye it any colour I like, purple by choice. Though the poem is about someone else …




I walked by the teens                                            mum_purple
at the cornerstore
with their hip-slung shorts
drooped tank-tops

wondered if they knew Matt
who punked his hair like theirs

no one in the family
saw it as different
until he asked us
to his wedding
