The Bitter Taste

Yes, Easter is coming up. But first comes Good Friday. There are dark, bitter, days in our lives that have to be lived through (I know I’m not the only one who has them), and Good Friday reminds us of those days, how universal they are … before the sunshine returns …


a fisted tight squeeze                       139..3.12.15
juice flows thick
with pips rags of pith
pungent squirts

drips of acid
that I lick and spit
forget acrid rind
gliding its knife
across my skin
up my nose
not spicy
or sweet-smelling
a slash of astringency
squeezed away
