I SOLD DOROTHY LIVESAY A BED
they say that Dorothy
slept lightly those last years
warm on her posturepedic
I sold her that bed –
an extra in the basement
not likely to have a guest
between the sheets
when I was a student
eating rice and sardines
for breakfast
she bounced
on the springs
high into a line of laughter
sat down and dreamed a cheque
into my hungry hands
she never said
she was a poet
