November’s birthstone is the Topaz, in particular the yellow stone; the flower is chrysanthemum (I love the rich copper coloured ones). There are several days, apart from Remembrance Day, to notice: the 13th is World Kindness Day; the 14th is World Diabetes Day; and November 25 is Teachers’ Day in Indonesia. Perhaps the last should be honoured all over the world as well …

bronzed minutes

waiting to be swept

A Bedroom of Searchlights’: poetry. This collection draws a picture of the poet’s divorced mother, an artist with two children, who struggled with poverty, war, and the realities of daily life, yet still found beauty and comfort in her garden, and her art.
