A Nursery Moon

I’ve no idea why but I’ve been thinking of nursery rhymes, maybe it’s a slightly mad time of year? But I’m remembering them with delight, pondering their historical backgrounds, but mainly just playing around with them, having fun …

A NURSERY MOON

the sky leans down
to grab the cat
pull her to the moon
to catch the cow
that jumped too high
and got stuck
on a quarter horn

the dog fiddled
an Irish jig
on his double bass
bounced his paws
and thrust him up
to join cat and cow
eating honey
with a very long spoon
