Not to Hurry

Three weeks to Christmas and I’m trying to get ahead of myself and the
season …

the house smells of baking
shortbread in the oven
mince pies to be made

I try to make cookies
early    seal them in tins
and give myself time

time to make or choose gifts
time to quieten my thoughts
ready for Christmas

This collection draws a picture of the poet’s divorced mother, an artist with two children, who struggled with poverty, war, and the realities of daily life, yet still found beauty and comfort in her garden, and her art. 1. Francine says:

I never was a ‘baker’, my parents and in-laws were, my neighbour & fiend was, I do not know why I did not feel included. Many Thanks to Sylvan’s bakers for keeping us in the mood.
