DISTANT SONGS
the game of childhood 
played in small spaces
with delicious fear
prickling under skin
a prank that runs
and chases shadows
under fences through
high field grass
to pick unripe apples
rhymes fly on high
then skip from my hand
to your hand and fall
like jacks in tangled
limbs of laughter
