The simplest things bring the current situation to mind, just doing the
laundry on a fine day …
THE LAUNDRY
clothes in washer
colours unsorted
soap poured in
close the lid
turn the knob
to full wash
walk away for
half an hour
come back and pull
heavy wet clothes out
into wicker basket
and hang on the line
sit on the stoop
watch sheets and towels
flap in the wind
touching one another
talking face to face
and I long for
distancing to end
To Bethlehem: ‘This little book is delightful, full of … poems on this timeless subject. … the most fun is the little prose vignettes of the common people in the Christ-child story. The slave who looks after the wise men’s camels, or the overworked maid at the inn who has to fetch water for the birth, and many more. A lovely gift for the reader on your Christmas list!’ Rosalind Adams. Available from Amazon and Kindle.
