Meet the Author

IMG_8075My blog is all poetry: I write everyday, and post to my blog on every Wednesday. If you have any suggestions about what I should write about, let me know.

I like to find a photo that either complements or contrasts with the poem, and I have great fun looking for the photo, either in my collection or having to take one that ‘fits’.

Born in England, I live in Shawnigan Lake, on Vancouver Island, B.C., Canada. I am married to Robert; and we have three sons:

… two cats, Alice and Chaucer, a herd of deer, raccoons, and two derelict hen-houses.

I have published in numerous anthologies and in magazines such as 7Beats Here and Now Canadian Women’s Studies (print), Cynic Online Magazine, The Feathertale ReviewA Hundred GourdsInk Sweat and Tears, Joyful, Mu Haiku Journal,  Paper Wasp (print), Tower Poetry, and many more…

I have been a member of the Poetry List of the Internet Writing Workshop, for thirteen years. It’s an invaluable resource and a great place to learn.

Clarity House Press has published several of my chapbooks including:

  • One of These Little Ones
  • Cuernavaca Diary
  • Seasons
  • Watch-night
  • Berry and the Birthday Band – now and eBook with Smashwords

    Hello Joanna,
Thank you for your kind note about “Pasayten Wilderness” at In Her Place. You’re on the IWW, aren’t you? It’s a wonderful resource.

    Best wishes for your writing,

I have just discovered your poem “The Becoming” and am so excited to find this piece as it provides the exact usage of the word and imagery that I want for an English essay I must write at University.

  5. Johnny says:

I am at Liberty University in the States. Lynchburg, Virginia. My major is International Relations here, but I am currently writing a definition essay in my English course.

I found your poem in the Canadian Women’s Studies journal through an online database through my university. I am enjoying my courses very much. I love the school and I have been acquainted with the classes, campus, and people of the university now. I am a freshman from Michigan and am definitely enjoying the warm southern US weather during the winter time, however, being from Michigan I am an avid winter sports fan so it is a tradeoff. You are located in near Vancouver in BC? I would love to live up there. A teammate on my hockey team here is from Penticton and I hear nothing but great things about BC. Enjoy your day and blessings to you.

Joanna, we met last week at Yelliw Point Lodge. I told you you reminded me of an English actress. As we were leaving the ferry, it came to me: Dame Joan Plowright. So relieved! It was a pleasure to meet you.

    • Hi Jamie, Thank you for being in touch. I have to admit that I had to google Dame Joan, and am
impressed to remind you of such a personality. And it was a pleasure to meet you too, maybe
again next year, same time? All the best, Joanna
