Getting ready for Christmas takes a l-o-n-g time, at least it does for me, months in fact. And, of course, life goes on and daily life has to be taken care of so I get disorganized and do things in the wrong order …

PROCRASTINATION
I pause to crochet an angel
for a Christmas stocking
and, once again, I’m late
late for an appointment
because I wanted to write
a poem about you and the moon
delayed by needing to sew
a button on the plaid shirt
I should throw out
delayed by a phone call
from a foreign sales rep
I didn’t need to answer
one of these days I will have
a reasonable excuse for being late
until then I’ll crochet angels

‘A Bedroom of Searchlights’: poetry. This collection draws a picture of the poet’s divorced mother, an artist with two children, who struggled with poverty, war, and the realities of daily life, yet still found beauty and comfort in her garden, and her art.
