Second hand Clothes

I like shopping in second hand stores. Here I can browse and where I invariably find exactly what I’m looking for. In retail ‘new’ stores I get completely overwhelmed by the racks and racks of clothes that are all the same colour and style …

I finger the racks
at the Sally Ann
sniff and feel
wanting to buy
the sweater and pants
that carry the scent
of lavender soap

or that jacket
with the faint aroma
of cigar butts
tucked into pockets

perhaps a satin dress
pleated and ruffled
not my style but
a child’s dream
for dressing up

then I find the shirt
and jeans that smell
of her Nina Ricci and
my tomorrow
